Patient activities at Ty Catrin

Rehabilitation, vocation and leisure time are central to successful recovery at Ty Catrin. At Ty Catrin, we focus on individuals’’ strengths and interests as well as activities of daily living and aspects of functioning that may need skill improvement.

In order to achieve this, we provide a range of educational opportunities at Ty Catrin. There is also a high level of engagement with local community centres in terms of the provision of voluntary work and skills-based training to assist patients’ return to meaningful activity and employment. Examples include providing individuals with the opportunity to gain experience in cycling workshops, dog walking, volunteering in a food bank, and other community-based educational courses that are relevant to personal goals and interests.

Our facilities/activities at Ty Catrin include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Gym/fitness suite
  • IT suite
  • Relaxation area
  • Large ‘piazza’ communal area, including table tennis and a projector screen
  • Family visiting suite
  • Group therapy rooms
  • Occupational therapy kitchen

Social integration and the formation of friendships is also an integral part of recovery at Ty Catrin. As such, we organise regular social events such as film nights, quiz evenings and summer fetes, in order to enhance individuals’ leisure time and assist in the development of social skills.

Patient engagement at Ty Catrin

At Ty Catrin, we ensure that all patients are actively involved in their care, and are involved in planning their timetable of activities based on personal interests and goals. These will include group sessions and one-to-one interventions.

Patients are encouraged to attend a range of meetings such as weekly community meetings, weekly primary nurse sessions, and monthly independent care reviews with the clinical team. In addition, each ward has a patient representative who sits on the patients’ council. The patients’ council meets monthly with the patient forum. This provides direct access to senior management to address any issues on the wards.
