Dr Shakeel Ahmad has over 20 years of experience working as a consultant in different sub-specialties of adult psychiatry.

He has experience in treating variety of adult-age psychiatric disorders while working in various clinical settings, including acute inpatients, psychiatric intensive care, community and outpatients, outreach, neuropsychiatry, low secure and rehabilitation settings.

During this time, he has also served in senior operational roles including clinical director for general adult psychiatry in Surrey, UK; medical director at a hospital in South West London; and as chair of London Division, Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK.

Dr Ahmad had an early interest in philosophy and development of human mind; as an undergraduate he co-founded an organisation to promote creative thinking amongst the youth through self-discipline.

Dr Ahmad trained at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, and the Maudsley, Bethlem Royal and University College Hospitals. He contributed towards setting up one of the first outreach treatment programmes in the country at Maudsley Hospital, with a focus on understanding patients’ mental health in relation to their environment and life circumstances. He also contributed in setting up an inpatient neuropsychiatry and brain injury service in South West London, and is able to provide neuropsychiatric assessments and advice.

In addition, Dr Ahmad has been one of the contributors to the World Health Organisation (WHO) guide on mental health to primary care, UK.

In his practice, Dr Ahmad aims to focus on the patient in a holistic manner, trying to understand the human being in distress, who may have in interacting mix of complex symptom presentations.
