About

Karen is a compassion focused therapist and couples therapist, registered and accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She has over 10 years of experience working in mental health, and specialises in providing relationship therapy and working with trauma.

Karen has worked with a diverse range of individuals and couples across a variety of sectors; the health service, universities, the workplace, charities and the private sector. She recognises how hard it can be to reach out for support and aims to provide a safe, warm and friendly place for people to explore things further. Her focus within sessions is largely on helping individuals and couples to gain insight and understanding into their difficulties and to support them in finding new ways of coping going forwards.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Couples and Relationship Counselling - Relate
  • Certificate in Trauma-Focused Therapy – Manchester Psychotherapy Institute
  • MA Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy – University of Leicester

Research has shown that the biggest factor for successful therapy does not lie in the type of therapy used, but in the therapeutic relationship between patient and therapist. Even though I am psychodynamically trained, I integrate other forms of therapy to best meet the individual needs of every patient and their unique circumstances. This two-way dynamic enables and promotes growth within the patient as well as the therapist, thus strengthening the relationship and possible outcomes of the therapeutic process.
