Piers Harris

Piers Harris has held various positions at Priory Healthcare since 2001, working at Farm Place, Priory North London and in Oxford soon after the Wellbeing Centre in Oxford opened.

He is a registered member of BACP and has graduate basis for membership of BPS.

Training

Following a highly positive experience with two therapists in the early 90s, Piers believed that there could be no more worthwhile occupation than helping others towards the freedom he experienced following his own experiences in therapy. To this end he began a thorough training in Psychology and Counselling at the University of Surrey in 1996.

This was followed with a specialist diploma in Addictions, Supervision of Individuals and Groups , and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) training - indicated as treatment of choice for individuals suffering all kinds of trauma – both developmental and single incident.

Following a two-year spell after training at Coldingley Prison working with addicts and alcoholics, Piers moved to Priory Farm Place where he became the senior counsellor managing the day to day running of the programme there. He then began working at the Wellbeing Centre in Oxford mainly using EMDR to work with adults, adolescents and children affected by trauma of all kinds.

Piers finds himself constantly surprised at the astounding results achieved by this way of working, and is finding it helpful in various trauma related difficulties. He works in a pragmatic, collaborative and relational way and particularly enjoys working with children and adolescents.

I aim to provide a safe and supportive ‘container’ in which patients may explore and heal from their individual challenges. I am pragmatic and positive, highly enthusiastic and committed to delivering the best possible care with humour and compassion.
