The Cloisters Hospital praised by care inspectors for being "kind and caring"
A hospital located in Newbury, The Cloisters, has been rated 'good' overall and in all care categories by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.
In the report, inspectors said: "The staff were kind, caring and motivated." They added: "All of the patients we spoke with complimented staff who provided services through the Cloisters. Professional, responsive, and respectful staff supported patients consistently. All of the patients said the staff could not do anymore to meet their needs and they worked hard and had patients' best interests and welfare always as their priority."
The report mentions that regular patient community meetings are held, which staff attend so that patients can raise any issues or ideas for improvements they have. The chef prides himself on gathering patients' opinions so that he can prepare high quality meals. The hospital offers an 'outreach' service so that patients have the smoothest transition possible to the outside world.
Inspectors highlighted the fact that the hospital works with a housing association to make sure that patients can move into suitable community accommodation once they have finished their stay.
The report references the range of activities which patients take part in including fishing, photography, football, yoga, drama and singing. The hospital organises twice-weekly trips to the shops, zoo, cinema and local museums. Patients can personalise their bedrooms to make them their own.
The Cloisters is located in Monks Lane, Newbury, in Berkshire. The hospital offers long term in-patient rehabilitation for people with mental health problems. The service supports people to live more independent lives.
Trudi Pheasant, Hospital Director, said: "I am delighted that the report mentions our outreach service and the support we offer to patients when they leave the hospital as we pride ourselves on offering smooth and manageable transitions. I would like to thank all my team for the excellent work they do."
Warren Irving, Manager Director for the Central Region at Priory Healthcare, said: "This is a great hospital that strives for excellence. The report is really positive and I am sure all the team there will be proud of what they have achieved."
